We have had our interest piqued over here at Poppy's Cookshop HQ. People are raving about the health benefits of Detox food and drink both internally and externally. Benefits claimed are as follow:
We have been given a basic blueprint for a healthy and tasty detox smoothie so going on a journey of discovery to find out if they suit us and if they make us feel any better.
We will reveal the basic blueprint at the end of this testing period.
We had to start somewhere so for our first creation we went with:
Apple (peeled and cored) x 2
Strawberries (cored) 1 – 2 cupfuls
Broccoli – cupful
Spinach 1 – 2 cupfuls
Avocado – 1
Juice of one lemon
Coconut Water (available at most supermarkets) – 2 Cupfuls
We threw all this in a blender and blasted it for 30 – 60 seconds until smooth enough to drink.
The colour of the greens took over and it ended up the colour of say the core of an Avocado. There was still some texture from the broccoli heads but otherwise smooth. We were surprised that the taste was more palatable than we expected with such a diverse mixture. The flavour of the strawberries, apple and broccoli came through but didn’t dominate.
As for after effects, one tester felt the need to use the WC slightly more often than usual and I personally did feel that my metabolism increased slightly and gave me a fleeting warm glow. We aren’t scientists and not going to try and work out what was happening.
These types of beverage are full of goodness and nutrients in a concentrated shot so perhaps no surprise that they may actually produce some physical effects.
Overall, the experience was interesting and quite enjoyable. We will try another mix next week to see if we can improve on the taste experience.
Until then stay well and let us know if any suggestions for detox smoothies you have enjoyed.
